Dear Collectors and Researchers
In 1973 collectors and researchers joined together in the field of "Railway Post Office" in the Federal Republic of Germany. Thus the foundation of the RPO study group started. In the meantime it has gained about 250 members, some of them from other European countries and some even from overseas. Anyone who is interested in RPOs can apply for membership of the German RPO society bahnpostwagen_preussen.jpg (91442 Byte)

The research of the history and postal history of "mail by rail" is very interesting. The most interesting part of the hobby for philatelists is, to reconstruct the historical aspects with the help of RPO postmarks on envelopes or postcards. The RPO researcher finds it imperative to analyze timetables, files in archives and literature.  Our society can offer help here, especially by:

1. Information for members through our quarterly magazine "bp Berichte Bahnpost".
2. Research of the history of RPO.
3. Publication of a German RPO postmark catalogue
4. Set-up of a RPO library and. archive
5. Circulation service of a packet with RPO postmarked envelopes & postcards
6. Contacts within the study group by local and regional meetings of members.
7. Contacts to other study groups with comparable interests.

8. Register of forgery
.
9. Presentation and conservation of our three historical RPO - wagons from 1955, 1965 and 1967. Our wagons are fully equipped ready for service as museum RPO cars. Location of the wagons is 66679 Losheim am See at the Railway Museum Club Losheim (Museums-Eisenbahn-Club-Losheim) station.

In order to manage all of these tasks it is necessary that all RPO interested persons work together. The co-operation of all RPO collectors and researchers will make it possible to describe the history of "mail by rail".

Join the RPO study group - it's worthwhile!
