ATA HANDBOOK 138 - WORLD RAILWAYS PHILATELIC

ATA HANDBOOK 138 - WORLD RAILWAYS PHILATELIC (printed, loose-leaf)

ATA Handbook 138, World Railways Philatelic, was released in June 2000, with train-related issues through 12/31/99. This expanded version of the Handbook was compiled by Norman E. Wright, Sr., a CJRR Unit director who had been providing annual supplements to the ATA's 1996 HB-130 for several years.

The new handbook contains upgrades of many listings and features of previous editions, plus corrections and additions, new issues released worldwide through 1999, and a number of other added features for users. Supplements are added annuallly to keep this information current.

The 700-page Handbook, in an 8½ x 11" loose-leaf format (to allow insertion and addition of annual updates) contains more than 25,000 listings and more than 500 illustrated stamps of railway interest. Many previously unlisted and/or unknown varieties also have been added, as well as a considerable expansion in scope from previous ATA railways handbooks.

NEWS FLASH!

Supplement 5 to the ATA Handbook 138, World Railways Philatelic, written by Norman E. Wright, Sr. This 74-page supplement is primarily a checklist of new issues of railway-related stamps, identified by the author in 2004. There are no illustrations in this work, which follows the same pattern as the first four supplements of 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004. Each supplement has been copied on to different color paper for ease in locating the correct year of publication on each. The original handbook (still available) was released in 2000 and contained 700 pages of information on railway related items on postage stamps. Supplements 1 through 4 were released at the beginning of each new year. This Supplement (Handbook #138-5) adds all newly released items on this topic. Between the basic book and the supplements, there are almost 1,100 pages of material - the largest amount of information on any particular topic available in the ATA library. All pages in the book and supplement are 8-1/2 x 11 inches, in looseleaf format to allow them to be used in any of the variety of binders available on the philatelic market. Supplement #5 COST is $8 (non-ATA members) or $7 (ATA members) plus postage. Postage is $2 in the US, $3 in Canada, or $4 elsewhere. The complete Handbook, integrated with Supplements #1-5, also is available on CD ROM (2005 edition).

Anyone interested in either of these books or the CD version may order them through the ATA "Handbooks" link, or by contacting the ATA Central Office.
