Hirosuke Katsumi wrote in his e-mail of  April 24th 2003:
"This depicts an old Japanese castle "Gifu-jo". On the upper of this stamp, between clouds, you can see four slant black lines and three slant grey  
lines. I thought, these lines must be the symbolic presentation of the Nagara bridge over Nagara river.I confirmed this thought to Nagoya Post Office. They confirmed to the original painter, Mr.Toubei Sagamiya. His answer was "that's right indeed". On the Nagara bridge, the Gifu city tram of 
Nagoya Railway ran between 1915 and 1988. About 20 years before, I saw the trams on that spot."
